Varanus panoptes
 
These big lizards are also known as yellow-spotted monitors, so to ease confusion I refer to them using their scientific name Varanus panoptes. Before the arrival of cane toads these lizards were a common sight around the Top End, including in the Darwin suburbs, today they are sadly scarce. This individual was very young, and as vibrant as they come.
